Insurance for Self-Employed Subcontractors - Public Liability and Tools

As a result of the new Construction Industry Scheme from 6th April 2007 we believe there will be a large number of people previously classed as employees or labour-only subcontractors who will now become Self Employed Independent Contractors (SEIC) in the context of the scheme, complete with Contracts for Services.

We believe also that this has insurance implications both for the SEIC and for the contractor engaging his services.

Oval ContractaCover for Self-Employed Subcontractors is a specially developed offshoot of our long established ContractaCover arrangement and offers help for both the engager and SEIC.

It is designed for the easy arrangement of competitively priced insurance by the SEIC and has provision for the purchaser to give automatic authority for the disclosure of his insurance arrangement to the engaging contractor.

For the Self Employed independent Contractor

  • Part of the usually accepted proof of self employment status is your purchase of Public Liability insurance
  • Public Liability insurance protects your livelihood – claims can be in the £millions
  • The contractor engaging you will probably require that you insure
  • Your insurance will be portable – it is an annual arrangement and equally valid for all of your contracts

Cover can be arranged immediately if you are on our list of approved trades. Cost and application form/brochure can be printed from this site.

For the engaging contractor

  • It is probably a condition of your own insurance that subcontractors hold Public Liability insurance and that you check that they do.
  • We can reduce your administration. headache by automatically providing proof of the insurance of your subcontractors.

Cost and forms can be printed from this site or can be obtained direct from ourselves.

All advice and contact concerning the formation of the insurance will be between us and the prospective policyholders but we will automatically confirm to you the arrangement of cover if they authorise us to do so.
